2009-2010 AZSC Thunder Competitive Academy Strength Training Program Overview

Objectives
Assist in player development specifically in areas of core, endurance, strength. Implement training methods that will help a player achieve greater level of play through higher stamina and better coordination.
Scope of Services
Build core - Through many different stabilization exercises we look to build balance and coordination to achieve quicker movement on the field.
Lower body Strength - build up strength in legs to help with shooting and longer passes.
Upper body strength - Build up strength in upper body to aid in shielding and posting.

SPR athletes stages of deveolpment

Initation phase 6 to 10 years
Current Training Objectives:
Various movements and technical skills for multilateral (overall) physical and technical training Coordination, balance, flexibility, and perception of various movements. Aerobic endurance without exposing the child to stressful activities. Concentration, imagination, discipline, and willpower to complete a training task. Competitive scenarios were athletes can have fun in this process of development.

Current Training Methods:
Initiation in the technique of running, and simple jumping and throwing.
Exercises with obstacles that require extra concentration and engagement of the athlete.

Athletic formation phase 11-14 years
Current Training Objectives:
Developing the young athletes working capacity through general and multilateral (all-round) physical preparation.
Hip and Leg Power Production
Improving flexibility, coordination, aerobic endurance, thereby building the basis for speed and strength development.
Stressing the acquisition of good technique, especially in the sport of future specialization.
Developing the perception of correct technical performance.
Improving the concentration span, enthusiasm for the sport, determination, and will power.

Current Training Methods:
Exercise for the improvement of general and specific training.
Core and Injury Prevention Exercises
Exercise of the improvement of flexibility, coordination.
Exercise of the development of aerobic endurance, irrespective of the specifics of the sport.
Exercises against resistance (body weight and light apparatus).

Specialization phase 15-17 years
Current Training Objectives:
Developing and improving the motor abilities which are dominant in the sport.
Increasing both the volume and intensity of training but still without reaching a state of complete exhaustion.
Developing the young athleteÕs working capacity through general and multilateral (all-round) physical preparation.
Hip and Leg Power Production
Improving flexibility, coordination, aerobic endurance, for speed and strength development.
Stressing the acquisition of good technique, especially in the sport of future specialization.
Developing the perception of correct technical performance.
Improving the concentration span, enthusiasm for the sport, determination, and will power.

Current Training Methods:
Specific exercises are given priority, but exercises with related effects or multilateral development, are still an important component of training.
Core and Injury Prevention Exercises
Exercises for improving flexibility and coordination.
Exercises for improving aerobic endurance are being emphasized, while those intended to develop anaerobic endurance (requiring higher levels of intensity and fatigue) are being introduce progressively.
Exercises for improving muscular endurance and power are being introduced through simple body weight exercises and light apparatus.
